This project was actually a blend of a couple of different tasks that came together in a really effective way. We expertly installed a wall with soffit that created a designated office area, and in addition, we put in two half walls with gate to enhance the space’s functionality. I also took on the task of building three beautifully crafted custom gates, each made entirely out of high-quality maple wood. Given the considerable weight of the gates, which tipped the scales at around 54 pounds, we had to ensure that blocking was properly reinforced within the walls, particularly at the stairs, and the existing railing had to be carefully moved to accommodate these changes. The base and trim work on the half walls was meticulously matched for a cohesive look, and the gates received a rich stain before being treated with three protective coats of polyurethane to keep them looking great, especially with our furry friends around. Notably, the gates designed for the stairs feature a convenient “cat access,” allowing our feline friends to navigate between different floors with ease while effectively keeping the dogs confined to the main level.
